In the spirit of building a de-facto standard, this code is released under the lesser general public license (LGPL). Basically this means that you can link your project to this library as long as you make the licensed source available. Your project remains separate as long as you do not modify the licensed source.
You are of course free to modify the licensed source. If you choose to exercise this freedom and distribute your result, any contributions or changes you make to the original source code become part of the licensed source and must be distributed in source code form so that others may enjoy the same freedom as you.
